UNB Accommodation

From early May to mid-August UNB opens its residence halls to students, guests, groups, and travelers who are looking for comfortable, convenient, and affordable accommodation. Our traditional-style residences are located centrally on campus. With a breath-taking view of downtown Fredericton and the Saint John River, you are invited to stay on campus, as well as enjoy the conference held immediately adjacent to the residences. Residences offer single ($35/night) and double ($25 per person/night) occupancy accommodation with primarily communal bathrooms.

International Access and Canadian Access

We are close to your delegates.  With convenient highway links, we are within a day’s drive to Halifax, Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, Boston, and New York.  This proximity puts Fredericton a step ahead in marketing to potential delegates. The Fredericton International Airport, serviced by Air Canada and Delta Airlines, receives multiple direct daily flights from Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, and Halifax. There are also direct flights to London, England starting in Spring.

While ample flights are offered into Fredericton, flying into one of New Brunswick’s other major cities may prove both convenient and interesting to delegates, who wish to explore before or after the conference.

Taxis from the airport to the UNB campus is 12 minutes and typically $25 (cash only).

We also have bus service to Fredericton via Acadian Bus lines (SMT) from most local destinations www.acadianbus.com/

Passports/Visas

An entry visa and valid passport are required for all non-Canadian citizens, except US citizens. Travelers from abroad can check out visa requirements at www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/index.asp .

Language

English is one of the official languages of Canada and therefore the language of the conference.

Money

The unit of currency is the Canadian dollar, which is divided into 100 cents. In 2007, the Canadian and US dollar were close to equal and generally traded at par. Fredericton does not have money-changing facilities, except at banks. Those transiting through airports in Montreal and Toronto will be able to access money changing services. We recommend using debit with Cashstop, PLUS, Interac access, or a major credit card. Credit cards are widely used in Canada, and all major credit cards are accepted. Registration for the conference will be done on-line by credit card or by bank transfer.

Banks

Banks are open Monday to Friday. Automatic teller machines (ATMs) are common, and accept most cards. There are 2 ATM’s on campus, one in the Student Union Building (SUB) and one in the UNB Book Store.
