This Sunday (March 24th), the annual Winter Classic hockey game between UNBSJ and Dalhousie Medicine (BMNB) will take place at Harbour Station. The puck drops at 6:30pm and all proceeds (50/50, chuck-a-puck) will go toward Shinerama - a student-oriented group dedicated to finding a cure for cystic fibrosis.

Cost to attend the game is free and you must enter at the west entrance of Harbour Station and sit in the sections behind the player benches.

Come out for a great time and a great cause - we hope to see you there!

Green Society Earth Hour hike

The Green Society here at UNBSJ have planned a hike behind campus down to Tucker Park - please see the details below if you're interested:

For Earth Hour 2013, the Green Society is hosting an 'unplugged' evening from 6:30-9:30pm. As long as it isn't raining cats and dogs, we’ll be going for a nature walk down to Tucker Park, led by a couple of local grad-student-naturalists, where we'll have a little camp-fire fare (vegetarian options will be available), and some hot chocolate. If the cloud cover isn't too dense, we'll have some stargazing equipment available to share.

If it is raining cats and dogs, we'll just hang out and play games in the Whitebone Lounge, and switch to candle-light for the hour itself, but keep in mind we've ALWAYS got green prizes to share, so there will be excitement either way

Meet us at the Whitebone Lounge between 6:00 and 6:30 pm if you'd like to participate, and be sure to dress for the weather and trail conditions – we'd suggest some footwear that you can walk in a bit of snow or mud in without getting your feet wet, and a warm jacket. If you have a flashlight, you should bring it for the hike back.

Feel free to forward this to other groups you know that may like to participate.

Hope to see you all there!

Graduate Research Conference

The Graduate Student Association of UNB announces a call for submissions to the 2013 Graduate Research Conference (GRC).

The 2013 GRC will take place on Friday, April 26 on the Fredericton campus. The GRC provides an opportunity for students from all different faculties and departments to come together and share their ideas. The mandate of the GRC is to provide a forum for graduate students to present their research in a supportive environment, gain presentation skills, and develop links with the greater graduate community.

The call for submissions will be open from January 7th to February 3rd. For more information on submissions please see the Graduate Research Conference website: http://unbgsa.ca/section/85

If enough students from Saint John show interest, the GSASJ will provide transportation to the conference. Along with submitting on the website, please RSVP to Jeff via email with your name, student number, program, and a title and abstract for your submission.

In addition to submissions, the Graduate Research Conference Committee is currently seeking several upper level graduate students, with conference experience, to review and evaluate submitted abstracts.

Getting involved in the review process will allow you to gain an inside perspective on how the peer-review process operates and how abstracts are evaluated by selection committees. We will be accepting applications between Jan. 7 and Jan. 31.

For more information on applying to be a reviewer please see the Graduate Research Conference website: http://unbgsa.ca/section/98

Remember to like the UNBGRC page on Facebook for regular updates: http://www.facebook.com/UNBGRC.
