Writing for Fame and Fortune

Learn how to make your writing pay for the effort necessary to produce material that is easily understood, interesting to the reader and marketable to newspapers, magazines and the electronic media. Publishing, self publishing and publishing on demand will be discussed to help avoid the numerous pitfalls faced by authors.

Dates:  Tuesdays, September 24 – October 29, 2013 (6 weeks)
Time: 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.
Location: The Stanton Room, 2nd floor, City Market. Access off North Market Street
Enter and proceed straight ahead through a fire door to access the elevator to the 2nd floor, or take the stairs to your right. If walking, go up two flights and enter the second floor door. The classroom is directly in front of the elevator or to the left if you enter off the stairwell.

Course fee: $135 (plus HST)

About the instructor: Ross Mavis has been writing for almost five decades. He published his own award winning community newspaper in B.C. before moving to Toronto to become the Executive Director of the Canadian Community Newspapers Association. Since coming to Saint John 20 years ago, he has written food and life experience columns for the NB Reader, Atlantic Restaurant News, Occasions, Eastern Woods and Waters, East Coast Living, Saltscapes and the Caribbean Compass. He recently served three years on the board of the Professional Writers Association of Canada as Atlantic Regional Director. During this time he and his wife Willa operated a country Inn and Spa on the Bay of Fundy, produced and hosted 135 half hour TV Cooking Shows and published two best selling cookbooks.
