Working with Mixed Media
CCOM 1034
Mixed media is fun, experimental and encourages you to look differently at the spaces and objects around you. You will combine a variety of traditional wet and dry art materials with found objects to create a unique piece of art that experiments with texture and colour. This class explores the boundaries (or lack of boundaries) of drawing, painting and sculpture, and will focus on creative exploration and innovative techniques using (but not limited to) acrylic paint, stencils, collage, found materials, nature, etc. At the end of the workshop you will have a finished piece and the courage and motivation to continue this exciting contemporary work at home.
Materials list:
- a sketchbook (for taking notes in/experiment with materials in. It can be small, and if they have an existing one they are willing to work in, that is fine);
- an art pencil, 6B or 8B;
- a white eraser;
- a paint brush(es) of any size(s), with which they are comfortable working;
- In addition, if the students have any materials of particular interest, they are encouraged to bring those to the class, though it is not mandatory. This can be anything from scraps of fabric and paper, to pieces of plastic or metal, old frames, bits of wood, old books, different paints, etc. Basically anything that they might be interested in incorporating into an art piece!
