Understanding the Night Sky

Do you have a telescope and don't know how to use it or what to look at, or have you just wondered what is out there in our night sky? This weekend course will introduce you to the Moon, planets and other wonders of the solar system. Learn the constellations and their mythology, how stars form and age, and where to locate them. Discover how to use binoculars, telescopes and your eyes to observe both the bright and faint objects that await you. The course includes optional observing in the evenings with the instructor's telescopes and binoculars.

Instructor: Curt Nason
Dates: One weekend, Saturday June 8 and Sunday June 9, 2013
Time: 9:00 a.m. – 4 p.m. (there will also be evenings viewing of the night sky – scheduled at the discretion of instructor and class)
Location: Program Room, Saint John Free Public Library, 621 Fairville Blvd. Library is located at the back of Lancaster Mall in West Saint John
Course fee: $110 (plus HST)

About the instructor: Curt Nason has been interested in the night sky since he was a kid in the Space Age. He is an active member of the Saint John Astronomy Club and the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada, and observes the sky every day when an opportunity arises. He has taught introductory astronomy courses for the past decade and has written a monthly astronomy column for the Telegraph-Journal since 2000.
