Spanish Beginners, Level 1

This interactive course provides an opportunity for those with little to no knowledge of this romance language to develop conversational skills in a relaxed, non-competitive atmosphere. By the end of this level, you will have some elementary vocabulary and be able to understand, ask and answer questions using simple sentences. This course will cover greeting and farewells, making phone calls, ordering in restaurants, talking about you and your family and other simple topics. You will learn the alphabet and Spanish sounds, numbers, days and months, colours, telling time, adjectives, possession and some verbs in the present tense.
Materials: Bring a notebook and pencil. The textbook that we will be using is Cómo se dice...? by Jarvis Lebredo & Mena-Ayllon, 7th edition. Found on Amazon, eBay, and other online shopping websites.

Dates: 6 weeks, Saturdays, September 28 - November 2, 2013
Time: 10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
Location: The Berlin Room, 2nd floor, City Market. Access off North Market Street.
Enter and proceed straight ahead through a fire door to access the elevator to the 2nd floor, or take the stairs to your right. If walking, go up two flights and enter the second floor door. The classroom is directly in front of the elevator or to the left if you enter off the stairwell.
Course fee: $135 (plus HST)
About the instructor: Sara Trindade was born and raised in Saint John, NB. Growing up, she developed a passion for languages. Her mother tongue is Portuguese and she learned English and French in the school system. She graduated High school in 2005 having completed French Immersion and having gone to Brazil on an Economic Mission, as well as an exchange program to Quebec.
In 2005 she began her studies at UNB Saint John completing all the Spanish language classes offered, including the GoMEXICO Intersession in Mexico. In 2006, she moved to Fredericton and concluded her Arts degree with a semester abroad in Spain. In the spring of 2010, she graduated with a Double Honours in French & Spanish. That fall, she began her Education degree and graduated in the Fall of 2010 with a specialisation in CTESL & FSLC.
Sara taught three undergraduate Spanish classes at UNB Saint John during the winter semester of 2011. Currently Sara is an Immersion teacher in District 8.
