Learn Acrylic Painting

Say yes to Acrylic Painting!  In the warm, friendly Sienna Arts Studio, you will enter the fascinating world of colour and life, shapes and shadows, lights and darks using both contemporary and traditional styles of creating art. Water-based acrylics are versatile, quick drying, and easy to use. No chemicals and no fumes!   In this hands-on course, with one-on-one instruction, you will learn how to mix colours and develop your own style of painting. Join students of all levels, as you experience the joy of accomplishment and the flowering of self-confidence and creative energy. It’s all possible if you want it!

Week 1 - Description of acrylic paints and beginning a small painting.
Week 2 - Mixing colours using colour theory, harmonies and relationships, informational handouts, and painting.
Week 3 - Information on the use of brushes and supplies. Handouts and painting.
Week 4 - Information on the use of mediums; continuing on first painting and starting another.
Week 5 - Grounds, glazes, stains, and washes. Handouts and painting.
Week 6 - Impasto techniques and painting.

Materials Fee: $25 or less, paid directly to instructor.
The list of supplies needed for Learn Acrylic Painting (and available at the Sierra Studio) are:
1.  Acrylic paints with three primary colours:
     1) red - preferably Alizarin Crimson
     2) blue - preferably Ultramarine Blue
     3) yellow - preferably Cadmium Yellow Medium
     4) white - preferably Titanium White
     5) black - preferably Ivory Black
2.  Water containers, paint cloths, easels, palette knives and art aprons provided for studio use.
3.   Brushes - Start with a small and a medium-sized filbert (a flat, curved pointed brush). 
4.   2 stretched canvases, at least 9" x 12", and 2 canvas boards, at least 8" x 10".
5.   1 stay-wet palette at least 9" x 12", or a studio-made one for $5.
6.  Varnish (acrylic)

About the Instructor: Constance Wooldridge is a native of New Brunswick. Her art style varies from a spontaneous “painterly” style or a "high-realistic" style in oils or acrylics to colorful pastels, light-filled watercolors, detailed drawings and encaustic waxes. She currently teaches at her Sienna Arts Studio, the Saint John Arts Centre, Trinity Treasures (as part of an outreach for seniors) and an Outreach to Schools. Constance has studied with many other award-winning artists, and exhibits in galleries across Canada and in the New England states.
