Creating a Personal Memoir

This course will guide those who want to start writing about their lives and those who have already begun. Whether your writing is a personal journey, a family story, or a preparation for publication, this course will help you generate ideas, organize and express your ideas, and polish your work. Those who wish to share their writing can do so, in a safe and supportive environment. Your instructor will provide a list of notable memoirs and read from some of them.
Instructor: Janet Fraser
Dates: Saturdays, September 28 – November 2, 2013 (6 weeks)
Time: 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Location: The Edmund Room, 2nd floor, City Market. Access off North Market Street.
Enter and proceed straight ahead through a fire door to access the elevator to the 2nd floor, or take the stairs to your right. If walking, go up two flights and enter the second floor door. The classroom is directly in front of the elevator or to the left if you enter off the stairwell.
Course fee: $135 (plus HST)
About the instructor: Janet Fraser has been scribbling since early childhood. She has written, published, and won awards for her short fiction, memoir, and poetry. Her second collection of poetry Shiftless will be published by Guernica Editions in 2014. She has taught writing workshops at many venues, including Writer-in-the-Library and Memorial University of Newfoundland. Currently she is working on a novel.
