Genealogy researcher Rose Staples will help you get started and guide you through the process of using land records, birth, death and marriage records, probate, court and church records and vital statistics to research the history of your New Brunswick ancestors.  

Explore the treasures of family and local histories, folklore, oral traditions, family bibles, photographs, diaries, and journals. 

Learn the steps involved in genealogy and put them to use each session with visits to the Provincial Archives of New Brunswick and assistance in your research.

About the Instructor: In 1998 Rose Staples, UE PLCGS, began researching her own New Brunswick ancestors at the Provincial Archives of New Brunswick. She soon discovered her love for research and her desire to help others research their own family history. In 1999 she began courses with the National Institute for Genealogical Studies (distance learning through U of T) and has completed her Advanced Certification for Canadian Research and Methodology. Her primary area of research has been pre-loyalist and loyalist information within New Brunswick. She has done extensive research utilizing the Loyalist Collection held at the University of New Brunswick and the Provincial Archives of New Brunswick. She also has experience with research at the Nova Scotia Archives and the Archives for the State of Maine. In 2008 Rose was a guest speaker at the Dominion Conference of the United Loyalist Empire Loyalists' Association of Canada Conference that was held in St. John, NB. She spoke about the Loyalist Genealogical Resources of the Public Archives of New Brunswick and the Loyalist Collection at the University of New Brunswick. Rose is a member of the New Brunswick Genealogy Society, the United Empire Loyalist Association of Canada (New Brunswick Branch), the New England Genealogy Society and the Fredericton Branch of the St. Andrews Society.
