Soap Making

CCOM 1234 Hand Made Soap

Making your own natural soap is a great hobby and makes for wonderful custom gifts! Natural soap can also be helpful in treating some skin conditions. Learn all about the history and the science behind soap, while making your own custom cold process, castile soap and beautiful felted soaps, using natural additives for colour and skin conditioning, along with aromas of your choice.
At the end of the workshop, you’ll have your very own batch of soap (approx. 14 bars soap), a reusable soap mold, felted soap and a custom recipe created by you to take home.

Materials: There is a $15 materials fee (cash paid to instructor). All supplies and materials are provided. *However, for safety and hygiene reasons you are required to bring your own safety goggles. You may also wish to bring rubber/latex gloves. (N.B. Teens must be accompanied by an adult, as caustic chemicals will be used in the process.)

Instructor Laura DeGraceAbout the instructor: Laura first honed her soap making skills as a new mother in the rural village of Havelock. New to the community, she wanted to broaden her sense of community and build her skill sets in homesteading, sustainable living and cooking. She began the Green Eye Coop as a volunteer project at the YMCA in 2010. When volunteer Coop developed momentum and began to grow, others joined Laura to form a Board of Directors and incorporated as a Co-operative/Not-for-profit. Through the Coop, Laura has a wealth of experience offering soap making workshops.
