Rug Hooked Ornament in a Day

Here’s a great opportunity! Create your own unique rug hooked ornament (suitable for hanging on a tree or hook) while learning traditional rug hooking techniques. You’ll use a combination of wool flannel strips and yarn on a preprinted burlap backing. Instructions include the directions to finish the edges of the ornament, as well as how to apply a wool backing using white glue.
Materials Fee: A $10 materials fee (cash and payable to the instructor at the workshop) includes:
- Traditional rug hook if available (not a latchet hook. Although loaners will be available)
- A pair of small sharp (embroidery type) scissors
- 6 inch embroidery hoop (loaners will be available)
- A kit of preprinted ornament pattern on burlap, wool yarn and wool flannel strips, wool backing and ribbon hanger

About the Instructor
Mary Grant has been rug hooking for over 15 years and teaching for the past six. She is a member of the Heritage Rug Hooking Guild and the Rug Hooking Guild of Nova Scotia, including its Teachers Branch. Having a Masters in Industrial and Vocational Education has also been a great asset to imparting her knowledge to others. Mary has taught beginner courses, and more advanced shading and sculpted rug hooking locally and in the Atlantic Provinces. She has demonstrated her work at the Fredericton Library and Fredericton Region Museum, giving visitors of all ages an opportunity try their hand at this traditional craft.
