About the instructor: Janie Vu is currently studying biopsychology and media arts & culture at the University of New Brunswick in Fredericton. Originally from Ottawa, ON, Janie started her own local clothing line in high school called Auburn Clothing that launched in May 2008. After graduating high school, Janie decided to put a stop to her clothing line business in order to pursue another business goal, which involved making hemp jewelry. In August 2011, Janie opened an online shop called High on Hemp where she sells hemp jewelry including hemp bracelets, hemp necklaces and hemp anklets. Since then, Janie has made over 500 online sales worldwide, as well as several bulk orders to local shops in Canada and the US. Making hemp jewelry is one of her favourite pastimes and she loves being able to coordinate new, colourful pieces. Having learned basic patterns online, Janie has spent many months perfecting basic techniques while also inventing new styles along the way. In the future, Janie hopes to have her own local shop selling a multitude of natural hemp products including t-shirts, jewelry, soaps, and food.
