This workshop presents the printmaking medium of Drypoint which involves artfully ‘scratching’ an image into a copper plate, inking the plate, printing an image from the plate on dampened paper using an intaglio press.
Participants will learn about intaglio printing and where drypoint fits in. They will learn about the materials used, see examples from the past and from contemporary artists using the medium. The instructor will demonstrate the process and then each participant will have the opportunity to work on and complete at least one image and produce as many prints from it as time allows.
Supplies will be provided, as will a handout on the medium of Drypoint. (Participants will also get to take home some inky fingers.)

About the instructor:
David Brewer studied physical education/education at UNB and, after four years of doing this, that, and the other thing, went on to study at the Atlantic School of Theology in Halifax. Ordained in the United Church of Canada, he began drawing and painting in the 80's and gradually found himself in the area of Celtic Art and design where he still continues to stumble around. He started printmaking in the nineties with woodcut and linocut and etching, and went on to do some stencil printing (pochoir), screen printing, and drypoint. On a good day he can usually get lucky in whatever medium he wants to, but recent years have seen him put most of his energy into letterpress and relief printing at his studio, Rabbittown Press, in Fredericton, NB where he was born and where he now lives with his spouse and one and a half of his children.
