Creative Free Writing

CCOM 1111

Develop your creative self and writing skills with instructor Barb Buckley as your guide. Use this  opportunity to take artistic risks and have an in-depth look at the power of words. Since this is a creative writing course, here’s your chance to turn your thoughts into creative writing pieces.

Usually any writing that is original and reflective is considered creative writing. Given the time and scope of this course, you’ll concentrate on writing vignettes (short creative pieces, about 500-800 words that generally capture a moment in time.) You’ll also delve into poetic expression, which includes free verse. During the course, a variety of prompts are used for creative writing.  A fair amount of introspection has the potential to create a lot of emotive type writing. Therefore, If you enjoy writing as a way of expressing your life experiences and emotions, then this course may be of interest to you. Sharing your writing is on a voluntary basis in a relaxed, comfortable setting.

Each session includes components of the following list:

  • Creating an environment conducive to writing
  • Stream of consciousness
  • Inspiration and its sources
  • Writing vignettes
  • Poetic expression/free verse
