Train-the-Trainer: Understanding the Impact of Intimate Partner Violence, Helping Social Workers to Better Intervene

This training provides an excellent opportunity for participants to share their knowledge, experiences and insights about intimate partner violence while also learning how to increase the effectiveness of their interventions. The training strives to support social workers who are in a position to train their peers about the dynamics of and effective responses to intimate partner violence. The course is organized in a train-the-trainer design.

Instructor
Rina Arseneault, MSW, RSW
Rina has been the Associate Director of the Muriel McQueen Fergusson Centre for Family Violence Research, UNB since November 1993. From 2001 to 2003, she worked in the Psychiatry Emergency Services and at the HIV/ AIDS Clinic at the Ottawa Hospital.
She is recognized as an activist and educator on women issues. She has organized numerous training opportunities and workshops She helped to develop the 8-course credited UNB Certificate program in Family Violence Issues and she delivered two of the courses of the Program. With colleagues, she developed and delivered the train-the-trainer program Understanding the Impact of Intimate Partner Violence: Helping Social Workers to Better Intervene to French and English social workers in New Brunswick.
Her experience includes extensive work with community -- organizations, individual researchers, government agencies, the media and victims of violence.
In 1997, Rina was honoured with the NB Advisory Council on the Status of Women Recognition Award for her contribution to improving the status of women in New Brunswick. She also received the Muriel McQueen Fergusson Foundation Award in 2002, for her work in violence against women and family violence
Ginette Petitpas Taylor
Ginette Petitpas Taylor is a graduate from the Université de Moncton in social work and has worked as the Coordinator of the Codiac Regional RCMP Victim Services unit since 1992. She provides crisis intervention services to victims of sexual abuse and Intimate partner violence and to other individuals who have suffered from traumatic situations. Ginette has been very active in her community and has volunteered on several local, provincial and national groups including the Coalition against Abuse in Relationships, the Sexual Abuse Action Committee, Crossroads for Women, Family Services Moncton, and the Public Safety Advisory Committee.
In 2002-2005, Ginette was appointed by the Provincial Government to the New Brunswick Advisory Council on the Status of Women and became its Chairperson in 2005-2009. Ginette continues to contribute in her community as she maintains her involvement in many political and social justice issues.
