The purpose of this two-day workshop is to provide business operators, managers and personnel with a practical overview of the key environmental regulations that apply to their activities. For example, the New Brunswick Clean Environment Act, Clean Air Act and Clean Water Act will be covered. As well, the Federal Fisheries Act, Canadian Environmental Protection Act and Species at Risk Act will be considered. Participants will leave the workshop with knowledge of how these laws apply to their business operations, including waste and hazardous materials management, use and treatment of water, release of substances to the air, water or soil, and licensing requirements for various activities.
Topics covered include: The Creation of Environmental Law in Canada, How governments obtain authority to create laws, Federal and Provincial Environmental Regulation in New Brunswick, Offences and Defences, including the defence of due diligence, Enforcement and Compliance, Environmental Management, Professional Liability and Civil causes of action (lawsuits).
Business owners and operators, managers and environmental affairs staff will benefit from this workshop. Other staff, including engineers, scientists and lawyers, requiring an understanding of environmental issues related to the business will find this practical review to be beneficial.

Lisa also holds a Masters of Environmental Studies from the School of Resource and Environmental Studies. She provides a plain language approach to teaching in this challenging area.
