Environmental Impact Assessment (NEW)

CMPW 5004

The purpose of this three-day workshop is to provide business operators, managers and personnel with a general overview of EIA from a theoretical, regulatory and practical perspective. This workshop serves as an introduction to both the subject matter of environmental impact assessment and management, and the interdisciplinary nature of environmental issues/problem solving.

Environmental impact or effects assessment (EIA) is a process through which environmental and socio-economic impacts potentially resulting from a proposed project are identified and assessed. EIA is a project-development planning tool, with the overall objective of providing useful environmental information; to help decision-makers make well-informed decisions related to proposed projects or activities.

Participants will leave the workshop with an understanding of what EIA is, when it is required in Canada and more specifically New Brunswick, and what is involved in completing an EIA. In addition, participants will gain an understanding of how impact assessment applies to their specific business operation or area of expertise.

Who should attend?
Business owners and operators, mangers, occupational health & safety and environmental personnel will benefit from this workshop, as will individuals interested in knowing more about environmental assessment. Other staff, including engineers, scientists and lawyers, requiring an understanding of environmental impact assessment and environmental management related to the business, will find this practical review to be beneficial.
