Assertiveness Skills: Communicating with Confidence

This seminar aims to improve your self-expression skills in order to communicate messages effectively. Assertiveness is the ability to honestly express your opinions, feelings, attitudes and rights without undue anxiety, in a way that doesn't infringe on the rights of others. The ability to stand your ground in challenging situations will maximize your communication confidence and will result in more positive outcomes.

You will gain insight into your current communication style and the styles of others. Participants will have a chance to practice effective communication approaches in a non-threatening and productive environment.

Content: Identify your dominant communication style and its' impact on others - examine the appropriate behaviours of an assertive communication style – use effective listening skills - apply new behaviours in real life situations and get feedback.

Instructor

Joanne Fraser's management background in the private, public and international non-government sectors brings a wealth of experience to her training and facilitation work. For the past twelve years she has worked as an independent consultant. Currently Ms. Fraser is an associate of RiverSystems: Leadership, Strategy & Organizational Development providing training and facilitation services for government, non-government and private sector clients. She has designed and delivered training workshops in project management, strategic planning, leadership skills, interpersonal communication, coaching basics, team building and negotiation skills.

Joanne has a keen interest in helping individuals and groups learn from and adapt to change. Ms. Fraser has a Certificate in Adult Education from St. Francis Xavier University. She holds a BSc degree from the University of Saskatchewan and a MSc degree in Comparative Development and International Policy from the University of Bristol, England.
