New York City 2013

UNB Faculty of Arts Travel Study Program in New York City 2013 Information Session |
Learn, and Live, the Big Apple.
Program Dates: May 5 - 25, 2013
“The city is like poetry; it compresses all life, all races and breeds, into a small island and adds music and the accompaniment of internal engines. The island of Manhattan is without any doubt the greatest human concentrate on earth, the poem whose magic is comprehensible . . . but whose full meaning will always remain elusive.”
EB White, This is New York (1949)
Discover the poetry of Manhattan in May 2013. The NYC program offers an opportunity for intensive learning in one of the world’s most important and exciting urban centers. Courses are taught in Manhattan and make extensive use of the city itself: its museums, galleries, libraries, streets, and people.
The New York City program seeks to cultivate the kind of active and experiential learning that is impossible to achieve in the traditional classroom. The city will serve as our learning environment. And conventional course content, such as readings and films, will be closely linked to activities in the field. There will be no lectures, only experiences. And the educational value of 'experience' will be enhanced by group discussion, group and individual projects, and through journal writing. New York City offers a great wealth of educational opportunities, both in the raw material of the city itself, and in the unique array of educational and cultural institutions it provides. All of our courses are designed to optimize these opportunities.
