Buffy AndrewsBuffy Andrews

Buffy Andrews has a love for bringing music to children and their families. She received a Bachelor of Music in violin performance from Dalhousie University in 2004, but grew up in PEI learning a variety of musical styles that contribute to her diversity as a teacher and performer today. She has traveled the world performing with numerous ensembles and is an active studio musician. Buffy is a former Kindermusik educator and has also received training in Suzuki violin. Her passion for teaching has spanned the past two decades and she now shares her joy of learning with her four children.


Danielle Girard

Danielle GirardViolinist Danielle Girard is currently based in Saint John, New Brunswick. She is a Teaching Artist at Sistema New Brunswick and is active as a performer of both chamber and orchestral music. Danielle has performed with numerous ensembles throughout Ontario, Quebec and New Brunswick, including the National Youth Orchestra of Canada, Orchestre de la Francophonie, Symphony New Brunswick and Orchestra London. As a chamber musician she has performed at the Canadian Opera Company’s Free Concert Series at the Richard Bradshaw Amphitheatre and the Art Gallery of Ontario. Her current ensemble, Port City 5 can be seen performing to sold out audiences at the Saint John Theatre Company, as well as many other venues in the Saint John area.

Danielle holds a Master of Music degree from the University of Toronto, as well as an Artist Diploma from the Glenn Gould School of the Royal Conservatory. Committed to education and outreach, she has taught at the National Music Camp of Canada and has given performances and workshops in elementary and secondary schools throughout downtown Toronto. Danielle grew up in London, Ontario, where she began her first musical studies at the age of nine.


Julian SmerdonJulian Smerdon

Julian Smerdon has been teaching at UNB camp since its inception in 1993.  He was an Itinerant Music Instructor in Toronto and Etobicoke from 1993 to 1999 and has been teaching classroom instrumental music programs in schools since 1998.

Julian’s bands and small ensembles regularly perform at the Kiwanis Music Festival and Music Fest in Toronto.  Julian has had groups perform at a TEDx conference at the Science Centre in Toronto and they have also performed at the Ontario Music Educators’ Association Conference. Julian has organized and taken trips for Concert Band, Jazz Band and Choir to France, Austria, Czech Republic, Italy and several US cities.  Since coming to Trafalgar Castle School in Whitby, Ontario in 2011, Julian has built a strong band and string performance program with a focus on extra-curricular band and chamber music.
