Daytime Workshop - Poetry 101 with Thomas Hodd

This full-day course introduces you to the world of poetry writing. Participants will examine a variety of verse models, explore strategies for developing their poetic impulse, write new material, and learn techniques on how to approach the editing of their work.

Time: 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Location: Milham Room, Harriet Irving Library, UNB Campus

Course fee: $125.00 plus HST for adults
$100.00 plus HST for students

About the Instructor: Thomas Hodd is a poet, essayist, and educator. Winner of the 2012 Writers Federation of New Brunswick Poetry category, his poems have appeared in Bywords, The Amethyst Review, Qwerty and the Nashwaak Review. He has published essays and reviews in The Globe and Mail, the Toronto Star, the Literary Review of Canada, Canadian Literature and Canadian Poetry. He is also a regular contributor to the Telegraph Journal`s cultural insert, Salon, as a book reviewer and profiler of Atlantic-Canadian writers. He currently teaches Canadian Literature at the Université de Moncton.

Evening Workshop - Aliens, Zombies, Vampires: Writing out Your Inner  Monster

Have you a monster inside you, dying to get out? Want to let it out (on paper, at least)? This course will offer constructive tips on bringing out the best in your beast, be it alien, werewolf, zombie, yeti, or something not yet imagined.

This course can start young writers on their way to submitting a story for the Writers’ Federation of New Brunswick Sheree Fitch Prize for fiction.
There is no entry fee but there are prizes:
1st prize: $150
2nd prize: $75
3rd prize: $50

About the Instructor: Corey Redekop is a Fredericton writer. His debut novel Shelf Monkey won the Gold Medal for Popular Fiction at the Independent Publisher Book Awards, and was voted as one of the Top 40 Essential Canadian Novels of the Decade by Canada Reads. His latest novel Husk won rave reviews and was chosen by editors at Amazon.ca as one of the Top Books of 2012. When he's not writing, Corey talks about other authors in his role as publicist for Goose Lane Editions.
