Course Description:

A general survey of perspectives and methods in selected areas of psychology including learning, memory, cognitive and biological psychology. Students will be asked to participate in various learning and research activities. Some course credit may be earned by participation in these activities.

Course Features:

Introductory Psychology (PSYC 1013) material is covered in 8 chapters, which are outlined in the Course Outline. Each chapter has an associated lecture, which involves audio and slide information. The course is self-paced, as students can work through each of the chapters in whichever order is preferred. An invigilated final exam can be scheduled once the student has completed all of the chapter materials.

Course Format:

Introductory Psychology (PSYC 1013) includes 8 modules that correspond to the first 8 chapters of the Weiten and McCann textbook. For each module, students are required to:
a) read a chapter from the textbook,
b) review the accompanying slides and lecture provided by the professor (all available on the Desire2Learn site), and
c) write a quiz, which is also provided on Desire2Learn

There is an invigilated final exam, which is completed once all 8 quizzes have been completed. There are also opportunities to earn extra course credit, which are detailed in the Course Outline.

Weiten, W., & McCann, D. (2015). Psychology: Themes and Variations (Fourth Canadian ed.). Toronto, ON: Nelson Education Ltd. The textbook comes bundled with a concept chart and access to online resources (MindTap).

Assignments & Examinations:

There are eight quizzes (20 multiple choice questions each) worth a total of 40% of the course grade. These quizzes are written without a proctor, but are closed-book and must be completed alone. There is an invigilated final online exam (100 multiple choice questions, which covers all chapters) that is worth 60% of the course grade. The final exam can be booked only after all quizzes have been completed. There are also opportunities to earn 5% bonus marks toward the final course grade. Additional details are provided in the Course Outline.

All mid-term exams and final exams for online courses will be invigilated at an approved time and location. Please refer to the Online Exam Request Form to book.

Time Limit: 6 months from registration date. All course exams and/or assignments must be completed by the designated end date of your course.
