Credit Value: Three (3) credit hours
Course Description

Functions and graphs, limits, derivatives of polynominal, log, exponential and trigonometric functions. Curve sketching and extrema of functions.

Note: Credit will be given for only one of MATH 1003, 1001, 1053, 1823 or 2853.

Prerequisite:

A minimum grade of 60% in New Brunswick high school courses: Trigonometry and 3-space, Advanced Math with an Introduction to Calculus, or equivalent courses;

Students must also obtain a passing score on the Department of Mathematics and Statistics (Fredericton), or Department of Mathematical Sciences (Saint John) math placement test (MPT).

For Math 1003 online the MPT is a written test and is administered just as exams are, and hence may be written at any time of the year.

Course Format:

The materials for the course consist of lecture notes, video slides, and video clips. Online homework assignments on each of approximately 25 sections, two self-administered tests and a final exam.

Note: This text is recommended (course notes are based on this text), but is not mandatory.

2. Calculus: Early Transcendentals By D. Guichard. This e-text is provided free of charge with the course.

Assignments & Examinations:

Assignments are worth 10%, two tests are worth 5% each, and the final written paper exam is worth 80% of the final grade.  Students must obtain a passing grade (50% or better) on the final exam in order to pass the course.

All mid-term exams and final exams for online courses will be invigilated at an approved time and location. Please refer to the Online Exam Request Form to book.

Time Limit:

Six months from the registration date. All course exams and/or assignments must be completed by your designated end date.
