ENGL
3250 begins with an overview of the age of Shakespeare, emphasizing the
original conditions of performance. Following this introductory material, study
of each genre begins with comments on Shakespeare’s contribution to its
development, followed by a detailed examination of each play and the major
challenges it presents to critics, audiences, and directors. Each section of
the course includes self-marking quizzes.
|
|
ENGL
3250 is a complete online package: Everything you need is available through the
course site or UNB’s online library resources at no extra cost. The course site
material consists of online documents (PDF/HTML) and audio files, with links to
full video and/or audio recordings of the plays. The site also includes lists
of topics for assignments, links to recommended sites and readings, online
quizzes, and background notes and illustrations.
|
|
The
required texts are the individual Oxford editions of the 14 plays and The Cambridge Introduction to Shakespeare.
All these texts are available online for free via the UNB Library’s
electronic resources.
|
|
Three papers are required. The final paper demands
additional research beyond the course texts; extra research may be appropriate
for the second paper as well. Essay topics are available online. All papers are
to be submitted using the Desire2Learn
dropbox system.
Papers will be marked for expression and
organization as well as content. To take advantage of the instructor's
comments, students are advised to await the return of their marked first
assignment before starting to write their next. Students who are experiencing
difficulty with specific aspects of writing are encouraged to review the
appropriate sections of any good writing text.
After all assignments have been completed,
students must complete an invigilated final examination; this is not an online test. Unless an extension has
been granted, the final examination must be written no later than twelve months
from the effective commencement date.
