Course Description:

This course is an online version of BIOL 2251. Introduction to the fundamental concepts of infectious disease microbiology. Discusses bacteria, fungi, viruses, protozoa, helminths and arthropods.

Electronic textbook, full recorded lectures, chapter quizzes, clinical cases and discussion of current topics (Zika virus, Human microbiome, etc)

  • Recorded lectures provide the classroom experience but with complete flexibility in schedule.
  • Tutorials and lectures can be watched multiple times to assist in the comprehension of the material
  • Clinical application of the material will make this course very beneficial for those interested, or currently enrolled, in a medical field.
Course Format: Students complete lecture portion of the course by reviewing assigned chapters, watching the recorded lectures and then completing the timed open book quizzes. Four clinical cases are also completed in the second half of the course in addition to one midterm and final exam.
Course Texts: Burton’s Microbiology for Health Science Sciences 10th ed.

Time Limit: Six months from the registration date. All assessments (assignments and midterm exams) must be completed prior to writing the final exam, which must be written on or before your designated course end date.
