General Schedule

The last day will be shorter. Weather and other considerations may cause us to vary from the schedule.

8:30 a.m. - 10 a.m. Morning lecture (first day starts at 8:30 a.m.)
10 a.m. - 12 p.m. Lab work/specimen processing
12 p.m. - 1 p.m. Lunch
1 p.m. - 5 p.m. Fieldwork
5 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. Supper
6:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. Evening quiz
7 p.m. - 8 p.m. Evening lecture
8 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. Plant identification in lab

Materials

Books:

  • Flora of New Brunswick, 2nd Edition by H.R. Hinds; – available at the UNB Biology Office or from the instructors at the beginning of the course ($25)
  • Newcomb’s Wildflower Guide by G. Morrison & L. Newcomb – available at UNB bookstore or Amazon.ca (19.95+shipping)
  • Plant Identification Terminology: An Illustrated Glossary by James G. Harris -- available at UNB Bookstore or Amazon.ca ($51.95+shipping). A free PDF can also be downloaded.

Other:

  • Hand Lens – (at least 10 x) – available at the UNB bookstore and at BAP (1-800-561-3600, 385 Wilsey Road, Fredericton. NB).
  • Small hard-covered notebook and pencil for field notes
  • At least 20 plastic bags (old grocery bags) for collecting in the field

Recommended items:

  • Rubber Boots (will be in bogs and wet woods)
  • Field Boots
  • Rain jacket

  • Hat
  • Sunscreen
  • Bug spray
  • Snacks
  • Water

Suggested items:
