Advanced GIS in Forestry & Environmental Management

GIS/Forestry FOR 5282 Three (3) credit hours

The course teaches advanced GIS via the industry-standard ArcGIS suite and emphasizes learning GIS through applied environmental management scenarios; specifically, applications in land base inventory and mapping using data for the UNB Woodlot.

Prerequisite: FOR 5281 or FOR 1285 or FOR 2281 or comparable, or permission of instructor

  • Students learn how to characterize and quantify environmental assets (forest inventory, riparian areas, transportation networks, etc.) at varying scales.
  • Using advanced spatial analysis techniques, students explore spatial interconnections of natural resources data layers.
  • Allows for opportunities for student-specific spatial problem-solving.

Course details

Students have six months from the registration date to complete the course. All course exams and/or assignments must be completed by the designated end date.

  • 3 x Quizzes (15%)
  • 1 x Final Exam (invigilated - contact instructor, 45%)
