Certificate in Safety Leadership

Helping safety practitioners find their voice

Safety practitioners have the technical training and know-how to ensure their companies can operate safely. To be able to be effective in their role they need to also be able to influence the senior management team and build consensus with the entire employee group.

Safety practitioners typically have the technical hard skills but also need to develop their soft skills, leadership skills, and potential, if they are to be successful and help their employers operate safely. The Certificate in Safety Leadership will help participants develop this capacity through the enhancement of specific skills, knowledge, and abilities required to gain influence, build consensus, and successfully create positive change in the organizations where they work.

Who should attend?

OHS practitioners and professionals who have completed programs of study specializing in occupational health and safety and OHS management, who want to enhance their leadership skills.

Courses

The program includes three courses, each with five online learning modules.

  • Understanding Your Leadership Potential (Know Yourself):
    Recognize and assess your current leadership skills and abilities, then apply your knowledge to enhance existing proficiencies.
  • Managing People (Know Others):
    Enhance your capacity to engage and influence others by developing stronger communication, team building, and leadership skills.
  • Organizational Leadership:
    Increase and adapt your understanding of organizational structures and the interaction of various groups in order to gain influence, build consensus, and drive positive change

Schedule

The program may be taken one course at a time. Students have up to 10 weeks to complete each course.
