UNB student spends summer improving lives of seniors

University Highlights | Shyane McKay (BSc'18) spent her summer working with a research team at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Saint John, N.B., helping senior citizens who have suffered falls in hospitals. The fourth-year nursing student received the 2018 Summer Studentship Award from the Canadian Frailty Network and the New Brunswick Health Research Foundation. Full story

Investing in UNB

University Highlights | UNB's Marine Additive Manufacturing Centre of Excellence received close to $5.5 million to support the expertise and infrastructure required to build a strong foundation for the advancement of additive manufacturing in Atlantic Canada; and UNB’s IBM Centre for Advanced Studies - Atlantic received multi-million-dollar funding to help deliver a new project that will improve and develop runtime software. The art, and science, of making chocolate

Alumni Stories | Eva Choi (BScEng’03) and Dallas Southcott (BA’95) have combined art and science to push the boundaries of chocolate making. Their company Chocolate Lab Inc., which specializes in artisan bonbons and confections, has won eight international chocolate awards and has become a world leader in modern chocolate decorating techniques and execution. From plumber to film director

Alumni Stories | When Michael Clowater (BBA’94) enrolled in the business program at UNB, he had no real plan, but expected he would eventually take over his family's plumbing business in Fredericton. After graduating, he worked for his father, but joined the New Brunswick Filmmakers’ Co-operative as an outlet for his untapped creativity. Today, Clowater creates funny, popular and award-winning commercials and short films. Full story

Alumni Stories | Through the George Frederick Clarke Project, Mary Bernard (BA'62, MA'63) is bringing her late grandfather's stories back to life by re-editing and re-issuing his books to a new generation of readers. Full story

CIBC, Indspire launch bursaries for Indigenous students

Impact of Giving | Indigenous students enrolling at UNB now have access to a special bursary program, thanks to a $500,000 gift from CIBC to UNB’s It Begins Here campaign. The CIBC-University of New Brunswick Indigenous Bursaries will be awarded to undergraduates with demonstrated financial need. Full story
