Directions from the Fredericton Airport and Nova Scotia to UNBF:

From the Fredericton International Airport: Take a left out of the airport entrance; this puts you on Lincoln Road heading west towards Fredericton. Distance between Fredericton and the airport is only about 20 km; travel time about 15 minutes. Lincoln Road will eventually pass under the Princess Margaret Bridge; the latter spans the St. John River. Less than 1/2 a km from this point, the road bends hard to the right. Turn left here off Lincoln Road; at the stop sign, go straight. After the yield, you'll be traveling west on Beaverbrook Street. At the next light, only a few meters down the road take a left onto campus.

From Nova Scotia: Follow the TransCanada (HWY #2 (NB) or 104 (NS)) west into New Brunswick. Distance from Sackville to Fredericton is 228 km (more info); Sackville to Moncton is only 53 km. Depending on your driving speed, the trip between Sackville and Fredericton will take about 3-4.5 hours. As you approach Oromocto, a small town about 30 km west of Fredericton, the highway splits: TransCanada goes left and Route 7 to Fredericton goes right; DON"T miss this exit! Once inside Fredericton city limits, watch for signs for Route 8; exit Route 7 onto Route 8 heading towards Miramichi. About 1 km along Route 8, exit onto Forest Hill Road; turn right off the exit. Travel about 1 km to the first traffic signal; turn left onto Campus. If you miss the Forest Hill Exit, you'll have no option but to cross-over the Princess Margaret Bridge; enjoy the view (!) and then turn around; take the first exit after passing back over the bridge; go right off the exit...then a left at the first stop light onto campus. If you need more detailed directions in or around town, either contact the hotel/motel where you are staying or email questions to André; this map may also be helpful.

Abstracts and Registration:

Titles and abstracts (100 words; excess will be truncated) should be sent to André by 1 November. Along with these items, please identify co-authors (if applicable), presenter address and email, software requirements (if possible, use PowerPoint; Office 2000 or XP version is ideal), and up to five key words. Also, identify whether you will be providing a poster, new ideas talk, or require a full 15-minute slot for your presentation.

We are encouraging students with little or no data to consider providing a new ideas talk; time allotted to these talks will be ten minutes; ideally students should leave five minutes for questions. Remaining students signing up for presentation slots will be given 15 minutes; again, five are recommended for a question/answer period.

All presenters should provide a copy of their talk (preferably on CD) to André at the Thursday Night Ice Breaker. If this is not possible, then find André during one of the session breaks prior to your presentation slot.

Anyone submitting an abstract will be immediately registered for the conference. All other participants can register by sending an email to André; see below.

We are asking all participants intending to go to the banquet (see details below) to identify this when registering or forwarding their abstracts by email.

Conference Location

Location of the conference is the Irving Lecture Theatre, Hugh John Flemming Forestry Centre;
it is just the Thursday icebreaker, & Sunday Board Meeting, that are in the Alumni
Memorial Lounge. The Hugh John Flemming Forestry Centre is at the top of Regent Street opposite the Wal-Mart Shopping Plaza and Fredericton Inn (banquet location). Regent street runs north-south...downtown is on the north end and adjacent to the St. John River; if you drive away from downtown on Regent, you will travel 'up' a steep slope; at the top you'll cross Prospect Street and then a bridge; the forestry centre will then be on your left.

Thursday Night Ice Breaker: 8PM, Thursday, November 11th

Finger food, cash bar and live music (jazz piano) will be provided in the Alumni Memorial Building (AMB) starting at 8PM (Alumni Lounge); this campus map may be helpful. AMB and Bailey Hall (Biology Building) face one another on Bailey Drive (if entering the campus from Beaverbrook or University Ave (lower entrance), take a right after rolling onto campus; then look for Bailey Drive on the left. If entering the campus from King's College (central entrance), take a left at the first stop sign, watch for Bailey Drive on the right. If entering at Montgomery (upper entrance), take the second right off the rotary then watch for Bailey on your right). AMB is closest to the river relative to Bailey Hall. Park on the Bailey Hall side of Bailey Drive or in the parking lot adjacent (west) to AMB.

Entertainment will be provided by the generous ACWERN Chairs...details to be revealed on Thursday night...don't be late!

Multi-media Extravaganza: Friday Night, 530PM to close...

Yes, The Cellar Pub at UNB Fredericton has offered most graciously to host our Friday night ACWERN - approved social activities. You should feel free to oblige their remarkable hospitality…

Temporal context…
Convergence should occur upon hearing a satisfactory response to the last question to the last of Friday's talks…In other words, 5pm 'till closing.

Spatial context…
The Cellar is situated in the darkest corners of the UNB Fredericton Student Union Building (SUB) basement. You easily can obtain coordinates for the SUB (which is located smack in the middle of the UNB campus) by simply asking a passerby. Park your vehicle (see map), pocket your keys, and quite literally "G'down t'the pub".

Solids for oral intake…
The fine restaurant on the premises has quite tolerably-priced pub-style menu which includes a small but handsome selection of vegetarian alternatives.

Liquids to do with what you wish…
Of course The Cellar is a pub, and liquids of numerous viscosities, shades and denominations, (some of them quite rare indeed!) will be served to you in the quantities you desire in exchange for a small fee.

Banquet: Saturday Night, November 13th

The banquet is being held at the Fredericton Inn and will begin at 6PM; the early start should give folks plenty of time to socialize after dinner. The ever-generous CWS has agreed to cover costs of the banquet meals.

Dinner will be served buffet style and will include vegetarian and seafood options.

The Inn is across the street from the Hugh John Flemming Forestry Centre (conference location). If approaching from the Forestry Centre, go straight through the lights and into the Wal-Mart parking lot; look to your right and make your way to the rear Fredericton Inn parking area. If approaching from the downtown area (see more detailed directions above), the Inn is on the right just before the Hugh John Flemming Forestry Centre.

Sunday AM Field Trip:

A Sunday morning field trip is in the works - depending on interest we will either head to the St. John River below Mactaquac Dam in search of ducks and gulls OR we will take a wander through some nearby woods and admire the view from Bald Peak. In the case of violently inclement weather we can tour the Beaverbrook Art Gallery.

Please email Laura Minich if interested and specify what trip you would prefer.
