Biology is the study of living things and it deals with everything from earliest evolution to the environmental protection of our world. It examines the physical and biological processes that affect the life and death of genes, cells, individuals, populations, species and ecosystems.
The Biology Department at UNB offers courses in the diverse disciplines included in modern biology, ranging from the molecular level to ecology and evolutionary biology. While there is a significant interest in what most call the “pure science” aspects of biology, there is also a strong emphasis in the study of biological principles as they relate to practical matters in fields such as aquaculture, fisheries and wildlife forestry and agriculture.
Bachelor of Science
The Biology program is available as a major, double major, minor or honours option as part of a four-year Bachelor of Science degree. The Faculty of Science is one of the university’s oldest faculties and was established when UNB was founded in 1785. Our faculty has an outstanding reputation, both nationally and internationally, and as a student you will be able to benefit from its stellar accomplishments in research and for its acclaimed graduate and nationally-accredited undergraduate degree programs. The impact of their research has led to four of our faculty members being placed in the world's top one per cent of chemists most cited in scientific papers.

UNB is home to some of the best and most up-to-date facilities in the country. We are one of only a few universities with an MRI and our chemistry labs are the best in the country. UNB students have access to the following facilities:
