Civil Engineering

More information

Civil engineering is a professional engineering discipline that deals with the design, construction and maintenance of the physical and naturally built environment which takes place in the private, municipal and federal sectors.

UNB’s Fredericton campus was the first to hold a Civil Engineering lecture in Canada in 1853.

Civil engineers work on solving many of the largest problems facing the world today. They plan, design and build infrastructure essential to a modern society. From highways and pipelines to water treatment plants and energy-efficient buildings, civil engineers develop sustainable, safe and environmentally appropriate answers to basic human needs.

Bachelor of Science in Engineering

The Civil Engineering program is available as a major as part of a four-year Bachelor of Science in Engineering degree. The faculty of engineering at the University of New Brunswick has been preparing graduates for success in their engineering careers since 1854, when UNB was the first university in Canada to introduce an engineering program.

Our graduates have gone on to help design and build bridges, make cleaner fuels and next-generation wireless communications tools. Researchers at the faculty are developing technologies to help improve satellite imagery used by Google Earth and the Canadian Department of National Defence. Others are in helping develop biofuels and renewable energy.

The faculty of engineering at UNB was ranked in the top 10 engineering schools in Canada by Knight School Rankings.
