The Classics program emphasizes the study of Classical antiquity based on the reading of Greek and Latin authors in the original languages and is designed for students who wish to on to graduate study in Classics (ancient history, literature, philosophy, art, etc.).
The study of classical languages is a requirement in the Classics program and students are encouraged to begin these courses as early as possible in their degree.
Bachelor of Arts
The Classics program is available as a major, minor or honours option as part of a Bachelor of Arts degree. Arts is a four-year degree that covers a broad range of subject areas concerned with the study of human beings and the evolution and nature of global societies, ideas, and institutions.
In your first two years of Arts, you will select courses in fields like humanities, languages, social sciences as well as science and business to provide you with a broad foundation for advanced study in your chosen subject area during the final two years.
Greek and Latin
Latin and Greek also form the basis of legal and scientific vocabulary and are therefore important for those wishing to pursue a career in law, medicine, health sciences and sciences in general.
The study of these ancient languages and their accompanying cultures will inform and develop students' writing and reading in all languages.
