A survey of selected readings of Latin American women writers from the Golden Age to the present. We examine works of Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz, Gertrudis Gómez de la Avellaneda, Alfonsina Storni, Gabriela Mistral, Isabel Allende, among others, from a socio-historical perspective. The seminar style course will explore the social conditions of the women in Latin America, issues of women's identity and gender construction. A multimedia approach will be used. The course will be offered in English and is open to students who have completed at least 30 credit hours of university level. Students who take this course to fulfill a Major or Honours in Spanish requirement will submit required work in Spanish.
