This course examines the legal and social contexts that affect students, teachers, pedagogy, schools, and education. The legal contexts component examines the major legal principles that guide the work of teachers with an emphasis on the ongoing and emerging responsibilities of teachers in the context of legal, policy, and regulatory ambiguities, tensions and challenges. The social contexts component explores education and schooling through the lens of critical educational theory, including the meanings attached to concepts of equality, equity, and social justice in education: and transformative pedagogies. | ||
